Food Drive - School Program

The response from the schools has been excellent. SSVP provides the grocery list documentation to facilitate operation of the program and it is made clear how important the program is in terms of separating the food items by year and type. School personnel are informed of the obvious benefit to the program and to persons in need whom we serve. If we do not have to purchase food, we will have more money to give to persons in need in food vouchers for fresh food. The nature of our work has SSVP going to the school always with our hand out asking for help. How great it is to have something to offer to the schools - teachable opportunities.

The past food drive from the four schools resulted in our SSVP receiving between 5500 and 6000 items of food. The purpose of the program is for the students to get some “teachable moments” from the food drive. The other obvious purpose is to help our members by receiving the goods packed in separate boxes according to food types and year. This greatly assists in stock rotation.
