More than just a Place Mat

St. Martin Conference hosted the London Particular Council Annual Retreat in April 2017.  Many retreats provide a luncheon, often prepared by the local CWL or K of C.  St. Martin’s took this opportunity of local engagement to a new higher level.  St. Martin’s Past President, Teresa Anglin, engaged Youth from the neighboring elementary school to make Place Mats to be used for the Luncheon Meal.  The idea was quite simple, the impact was powerful!  Teresa connected with the school principal to request their support.  As part of the plea to assist, Teresa provided the Principal with an orientation about SSVP and the services we provide.  This information was shared with teachers who instructed students to use their creativity to design Place Mats.  The results were outstanding!  Students at a very early age (Grades 1 & 2) were exposed to the works of the SSVP.  Teachers were also provided an insight about the dealings of the Society that they could use in their religion classes. The Vincentians attending the retreat were inspired and emotionally touched by the designs and offerings of support by these youth.  Samples of the Place Mats are attached.
